Las Golondrias Shadows

I’m truly in love with adobe buildings – the shape, the color and the history are so interesting to me and the more I learn the more I appreciate them.

Thursday afternoon I made an appointment to visit El Ranch de las Golondrinas. It’s a Living History Museum.

It is strategically located on what was once the Camino Real, the Royal Road that extended from Mexico City to Santa Fe. The ranch provided goods for trade and was a place where the caravans that plied the road would stop on their journey coming from or going to Santa Fe. It was a paraje, an official rest stop for travelers.

On a typical day the place would be bustling with activity with reenactments going on and would be so fascinating to paint.

However, for me it was a ghost town, due to Covid and I had the place to myself, except for a few employees mulling about.
